On December 19, 2014, the sixth national awarding ceremony of outstanding scientific and technological workers was held at the provincial Science and Technology Museum. Vice president and president of Academy of Seed Industry Mr. Yang Yuanzhu was awarded the prize.
According to the "National Outstanding Scientific and Technological Workers Selection Standard", recommended and selected by recommended units, assessed by national outstanding scientific and technological workers assessment committee, approved by the Standing Committee of the National Committee of China Association, ten comrades including Bao Xin were awarded "Top Ten Outstanding Scientific and Technological Workers ", 37 comrades including Ding Changqing were awarded "Top Ten Award Nominees for Outstanding Scientific and Technological Workers", and 962 comrades including Tian Ye were awarded "National Outstanding Scientific and Technological workers ".
Yang Yuanzhu has been working for 34 years, engaging in rice breeding research. Especially since concentrating on rice research in seed companies since 1999, he firstly built the market-oriented commercial hybrid rice breeding system with scientific design, reasonable division, standard operation, assembly line and resource sharing, achieving a "large-scale, high-flux, grouping and standardized" breeding and greatly improving the breeding and output of new varieties. During nearly 15 years, research team led by Yang Yuanzhu hosted 84 bred rice cultivars , participated in 50 breeding rice cultivars , including 24 Chinese trial varieties. Three rice varieties were identified as super rice, and four varieties as provincial regional sample, receiving 26 new varieties of plants. He also ranks top in super hybrid rice research, hosting and participating in the two-line hybrid rice breeding in the Yangtze River, which accounted for more than 70% of the total number of two-line hybrid rice. Zhuliangyou 819 as the combination of the first domestic precocious super hybrid early rice and the first low Cd hybrid early rice, filled the domestic gap in this field.
